Purchased this 2 months ago for allergies that I have developed and has worked great but started smelling musty smell. Finally removed the filters. Mold spots all over. Filter reminder says 60% left on them and the pinkish line is only up 2 inches. What is going on? How can I prevent it?

I love my Holmes Smart Humidifier, but the filters would stop wicking water after a week or two, even using distilled water. However, I solved this problem by purchasing a miniature aquarium water pump that I placed in the bottom and ran tubing across the top of each filter, then drilled small holes in the tubing so that water would dribble on top of the filters. Hence, they never dry out! No modifications to the humidifier was needed, and the total cost was less than $10.

After years of filling the tower humidifiers, I decided to try a bigger system, because I was tired of filling each one three times a day. The plants love it, and it's a joy to only need to fill it every other day. It does give the house a comfortable feel. Glad I got it!

I bought this at the beginning of last winter and was really happy at first then after having to change the filters every month solely because the just dont last any longer and each set cost minimum $25. So basically you will be spending $25 a month just to keep this working. Oh and also these filters are hard to come by that when i can find them i spend about $75-$125. just so i have them for the next month. I am stuck with it but you dont have to be.
